A case study approach to the question, looking at press reaction and influence from Wilson's League of Nations Proposal to the 1940, 1948, 1952, 1956 and 1960 elections. Trends of voter behavior as influenced by the press are examined in the 1960 Presidential Debates and the 1962 California Gubernatorial. The 1958 Michigan Senatorial campaigns are studied, with the conclusion that the press exerts less influence than widely believed. 15 pages, 34 footnotes, 11 bibliographic sources.
