19364. Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever Epidemiology. This paper provides an epidemiologic profile and overview of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever, a viral-based infectious disease endemic to some regions of Central Africa. Since its emergence in 1976, Ebola has attracted attention and resources disproportionate to the number of confirmed cases because of the severity of illness and high case rate mortality (upwards of 90%) as well as because of the potential for the use of the Ebola virus as a biological weapon. Following a discussion of the history of the disease and a summary of major outbreaks to date, the paper considers Ebola’s etiology, clinical manifestations, method of disease transmission, methods of disease containment, treatments, and public health costs. A final section considers some of the current and future efforts needed by public health professionals to prevent and reduce the spread of Ebola. APA Style, 11 pages, 34 footnotes, 12 bibliographic sources. 2,753 words.TAGS: Ebola, hemmorhagic fever, epidemics, public health, epidemiology, education, prevention, infectious diseases. |
