The African Brain Drain: Implications for Development.Drawing on examples from some of the most heavily-affected countries and focusing in particular on the heavily affected healthcare sector, this paper provides an overview and analysis of the problem of the brain drain from sub-Saharan African countries to the developed world. It is the thesis of this paper that for some of the most heavily affected African countries, brain drain has already created a crisis of development through its impact on the healthcare and education sectors, and that in all of the affected African countries, brain drain stands as a primarily impediment to sustainable development.
