This paper uses a nursing perspective to discuss the disproportionate occurrence of hypertension among African American clients. Researchers have found that the risk factors may be related not only to physiological factors but also to environmental stress, including the stress caused by being a victim of racism. The evidence pertaining to hypertension among African Americans results in various implications for nurses.
