GLOBALIZATION AND CHINA: PROFILE & CHALLENGES.Following a discussion and definition of the term globalization, this paper provides an overview and analysis of globalization and China, looking both at the challenges and opportunities of globalization for China, and the role of China in a globalizing world. It is concluded that globalization (in combination with Chinese reforms) has brought China numerous benefits, including years of remarkably strong economic growth and the development of a strong competitive market base. Globalization has also contributed to problems and produced negative consequences for China. In the future, China will have to find a way to address these problems, which include social and income inequities, environmental concerns, labor strife, and a fragmented and unreliable social welfare system. In addition, China must anticipate and address problems and challenges related to declining competitiveness, slower economic growth, increasing competition, growing inequities, and anti-globalization reactions both at home and abroad.
