18736. Aging and Gender Styles.This paper discusses the theoretical perspective of Margaret H. Huyck and her view that men and women shift away from gender stereotypes when they become older. The paper includes references to research studies by Huyck and others, the influence of Jung, and Huyck’s concern with the relationship between aging and women’s mental health. The character Maude in the 1971 film Harold and Maude is used to illustrate the freedom from gender stereotypes that often occurs among elderly persons.
