This paper describes the arguments against using the contemporary system of college grading based on letter grades. Argues that despite its shortcomings, the existing system (letter grades) is still superior to the proposed alternatives. The “grade inflation” controversy is addressed, and suggestions are made for using grades as a positive force in higher education.
