This paper presents a review and analysis of Gurthrie’s book about racial assumptions in the history of American psychology and regarding Black Americans’ participation in the discipline of psychology. The reviewer finds that Guthrie’s book is well-written and covers a subject that is usually neglected in psychology textbooks and histories of the discipline; thus, Guthrie has made a valuable contribution to the literature with this text on racism and racist assumptions in psychology.
