15429. Race Relations in Cuba.This paper draws on recent scholarship to provide a portrait of historical and current race relations in Cuba. The history of Cuban race relations is traced from the pre-independence period, through the Wars of Independence, the American Occupation, the post-colonial Republican period, the Cuban Revolution of 1959 and through the Castro regime up to the present time. In examining the history of Cuban race relations, the analysis also considers how U.S. race relations influenced the Cuban situation. The U.S.-Cuban intersection of racial perspectives is also considered in terms of how American attitudes and norms on race relations have informed the attitudes and perspectives of Cuban-Americans.
