Examines the social, economic, and health crisis among African-American males. Looks at the crisis from three major standpoints: the harsh realities of lowered life expectancy due to increasing mortality from AIDS, drug use and urban violence; the creation of a new black underclass; and the growing movement towards independent initiative and self-development among African American males. 9 pages, 25 footnotes, 11 bibliographic sources.
