Includes origins of slave trade in early voyages, distinction between "household" and "chattel/plantation" slavery, role of Portuguese renegade regime on Sao Tome, role of sugar industry, relative strengths of European and African regimes at various times, evolution and statistics, focusing on how the slave system was a true intercontinental political/economic/ system which both drew on existing cultures and provoked social/political/economic changes which maintained and developed the system.
