01853. Fidel Castro: January 1959: Initial American Press Reaction to the Ascension of Cuba's New Revolutionary Leader.
This is a survey of the reactions of the Christian Science Monitor, the L.A. Times, the New Republic, the N.Y. Times, Newsweek, Time and U.S. News and World Report during the first month of Castro's victory. It concludes that the U.S. press was not intentionally unfair but was hindered by a lack of appreciation for the causes of revolution in the Third World. 13p.. 48f., l1b.
