| 17274. TWO POST-ROMANTIC POETS: BAUDELAIRE & RILKE. This paper compares the work of two post-Romantic poets, Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) of France and Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) of Germany. Argues that while both poets rejected the ideologies of the Romanitic period, they also differed on a number of points. In particular, it is argued, they differ because Baudelaire emphasized themes of decay and decadence, while Rilke expressed a belief that a divine sense of “perfection” can be found in certain natural and manmade things.
