Academic Term Papers Catalog “ESSAYS ON AFRICAN HISTORY” BY JEAN SURET-CANALE. |

| 18051. “ESSAYS ON AFRICAN HISTORY” BY JEAN SURET-CANALE. This paper critically assesses two of the arguments made by Suret-Canale in this book: (1) the transatlantic slave trade disrupted the evolution of African societies and resulted in long-term economic, political, and social problems, and (2) the slave trade was a product of alliances between African rulers and European slave traders. It is argued that, even though these viewpoints may be true, Suret-Canale is not successful in building a convincing case. He makes unsubstantiated assumptions, fails to provide solid evidence to support his claims, and relies too much on a Marxist perspective and Marxist methods of analysis.
