EMPLOYEE INCENTIVES IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT.This paper provides an overview and analysis of the controversy over the use of incentives in operations management, exploring the arguments for and against the use of incentives. Incentives are defined and their basis in organizational theory discussed. The literature on incentives to encourage performance, incentives to promote team building, and incentives to improve the firm’s operations is reviewed. Concludes although some writers have argued against the use of incentives, a carefully designed and implemented incentive program can be effective in meeting the objectives of organizations and employees alike.
