This paper discusses an article entitled "Consumers Keep the Upper Hand," by Jon Berry, which was published in a 1998 issue of American Demographics. According to the article, American consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about obtaining "value" in their product choices. Berry cites survey data that show consumers placing more emphasis on the importance of getting a "good deal," rather than getting a quality product, per se.
