| 17480. THOMAS HARDY AND THE NARRATIVE POINT OF VIEW. This essay examines the choices that Thomas Hardy makes concerning narrative point of view and how it affects his communication with the reader. The analysis draws examples from Hardy’s The Mayor of Casterbridge. It is argued that while many elements of Hardy’s writing follow patterns already established in late 19th century literature, Hardy did in fact push beyond conventional ideas of storytelling, creating a style uniquely his own.
