This paper provides an overview and analysis of the $61.5 billion world diamond market, with special focus on the current position and future prospects of the Yakutian diamond complex within the global market. Following a brief review of the history of the industry, the paper provides a discussion and analysis of the structure of the industry and the diamond trade as well as a description of the diamond pipeline. Section three profiles current industry conditions, and includes identification and discussion of the major diamond producers and polishing centers and as well as a profile of DeBeers and the other major players in the industry. The profile includes an analysis of the basis of competition and profit potential among the various producers, polishers and companies.
