Following an overview of the ecology of the Galapagos and its status as a site of global scientific significance, the report profiles the approach taken towards protection and considers the strengths and weaknesses of the conservation measures. The principal threats to the Galapagos’ fragile ecology -- tourism, immigration and overpopulation, the fishing industry, invasive species, and others -- are discussed and analyzed.
