This paper provides an overview and analysis of the Bush Doctrine of foreign policy as it arose following the 9/11 attacks and compares the Bush Doctrine with two previous presidential foreign policy doctrines – the Eisenhower Doctrine of 1957 and the Carter Doctrine of 1980. Argues that the Bush Doctrine’s emphasis on unilaterally using preemptive warfare against sovereign nations has set a dangerous precedent and there are clear indications that it is causing damage in terms of America’s international relations.
