Relates Kubrick’s viewpoint in the film in terms of his views on the existence of intelligent life beyond earth to Plato’s philosophy of Idealism. Argues that through his message that extraterrestrial intelligence is a key to the evolution of both humanity and technology, Kubrick brings to mind the philosophical views of such thinkers as Herbert Spencer and Friedrich Nietzsche.
