| 17752. CHILDHOOD DELINQUENCY TO ADULT CRIMINALITY: PATHWAYS & PREVENTIVE INTERVENTIONS. This paper draws on established theories of criminology (specifically Hirschi’s and Gottfredson & Hirschi’s control theories) to explain an important turn in a child’s life (hypothetical case) related to severe family disruption and social isolation that seem to have led him, now that he verges on adulthood, to a sustained criminal career. The next section of the paper briefly articulates the young criminal’s point of view, explaining how he sees his life opportunities lying only within the criminal realm. The concluding section proposes a program aimed at high-risk high school students to ameliorate familial contributing factors to juvenile delinquency/adult criminality. KEYWORDS: conduct disorder antisocial personality disorder crime theories control theory effective parenting crime prevention persistent criminality juvenile delinquency. APA Style. 16 pages, 43 footnotes, 21 bibliographic sources. | $112 |
