| 17449. BEHAVIOR THERAPY FOR SHYNESS. This paper outlines a behavior therapy program to help a shy and lonely person become more outgoing and comfortable around people. The paper begins with an overview of the problem of shyness and the related social anxiety disorder, considering its prevalence, main symptoms, and consequences for the afflicted person. Following this, recommendations are made on assessment and the establishment of a behavior therapy program which draws on a variety of behavior therapy techniques, including graduated exposure and flooding as well as relaxation to address the person’s problem with shyness and loneliness.
