| 13365. PROPOSAL FOR A SCHOOL HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM. This paper presents a sample health education program for a local school. The school targeted for intervention is a New York City metro area urban middle school with a multi-ethnic student body population of 356. Based on a survey of students’ health behaviors, specific health threats (tobacco use and risky sexual behaviors) were identified for the community and a program aimed at addressing these threats developed. The analysis considers the prerequisites for plan implementation (e.g., establishing a need for the program, securing funding, etc.); describes the components of the school health program; considers the major barriers to program implementation; takes into account the impact of racism on the school on program success; plans for increasing public awareness of the need for the program; develops a strategy for engaging the participation of local senior citizens; and formulates responses to potential parental objections to the program. 16p., 18f., 11b. | $112 |
