The paper focuses on the theories of Thomas Gordon ( Parent Effectiveness Training); Virginia Satir and Don D. Jackson (Conjoint Therapy); Eric Berne and Jay Haley (Transactional Analysis); Carl Rogers (Client-Centered Therapy); Gregory Bateson (the Double-Bind in Family Therapy); and Paul Watzlawick (Therapeutic Communication). The paper argues that a key element of each of these recent theories is the crucial role of the transactional structure or grammar of communication in therapy.
